Sonic Origins – The time to expose fans to the games

Sonic the Hedgehog has always been a very popular video game character. His games have been hit or miss in recent years, but that doesn’t seem to be slowing down his popularity. Both Sonic the Hedgehog movies were huge hits at the box office, and Sonic Frontiers, his latest 3D adventure, looks pretty good from recent previews and hands-on impressions.

Weekly Famitsu interview highlights

In a recent interview in Weekly Famitsu, Sonic Origins producer Nobuya Ohashi and director Katsuyuki Shigihara talked about why SEGA chose to release the collection of classic 2D Sonic games at that time. They told a Japanese magazine that Sonic’s popularity has grown over the past few years and that Sonic Origins was the perfect way to introduce new and old fans to his amazing adventures, which were first seen on the SEGA Mega Drive system.

There had been plans to continue the original Sonic series for a while, but when the Sonic the Hedgehog movie came out in 2020, things moved a lot faster. We had heard a lot about how popular Sonic was in the west, but after the movie came out, it really took off. In North American supermarkets, you could find a lot of Sonic products.

Up until now, remakes and re-releases of Sonic games have always been sold separately. We thought now was the best time to introduce the games to new fans. So, we updated the first four games and put them out all at once. This is how Sonic Origins came to be.
