The official Super Monkey Ball Twitter noted that upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania has done away with the the lives feature to make the game more accessible to newcomers.
The team says that whilst the live system has been done away with in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, the game will still pose a challenge even to the hardcore Monkey Ball fans.
(Don’t rule out there being no use for bananas just yet – they will help with unlocking content – more details soon!)

In previous games you would collect 100 bananas to gain an extra life and so it remains a mystery what you will achieve when you collect 100 bananas in the new compilation. Our guess is character unlock though with all the mentioned DLC.
