XIII remake finally coming, first gameplay released

Microids has given an update on the XIII remake for the Nintendo Switch and said that it will come out on September 13, 2022.

The game first came out in 2020. Just before the Nintendo Switch version came out, Microids pushed it back to 2021, but it would later sneak into 2022.

About XIII

When it came out, XIII wasn’t well liked, but the good news is that the Switch version will be much better. Microids hired the French studio Tower Five, which made Lornsword: Winter Chronicle, to work on an update for more than a year. The game has been fixed and tweaked, and online multiplayer has been added. Microids says that Tower Five “reworked the whole game, from the art direction to the AI, and made many technical improvements.”

In a statement, Stéphane Longeard, who is the CEO of Microids, said:

“We are very sorry that the first release of the XIII remake on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC did not meet the quality expectations of players. A little more than a year ago, we decided to finish making the game by hiring the studio Tower Five. Tower Five has worked with us before, most notably on the great Nintendo Switch port of Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders. We really wanted to take the time to fix the game and give owners of XIII remake a free update that paid the best possible tribute to the original game we all love.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game will have all the improvements and the multiplayer mode, which will be the last thing added to the game during its development. When it comes out after the summer, we can’t wait for players to get their hands on this improved version of the game and (re)discover the classic adventures of Agent XIII.

XIII came out for the first time in 2003. It’s a cel-shaded first-person shooter based on the first five volumes of the same-named Belgian graphic novel by writer Jean Van Hamme and artist William Vance.
