Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 pushed back to Spring 2023

Nintendo has released an update on the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s development status. Zelda series creator Eiji Aonuma announced in a pre-recorded video that the massive open world adventure has been pushed back until spring 2023. He mentioned that the creators are hard at work on the game and expressed regret for the delay.

A brief bit of new footage was also included in the apology video, showing Link wielding what seems to be a savage Master Sword.

It’s a disappointment for those who planned to play the sequel to the critically acclaimed original — which was launched with the Switch five years ago on March 3rd, 2017 — over the holiday season. Many Zelda fans, though, were correct to be skeptical of the release date, given the series’ history of delays.
