Star Fox Armada – A cancelled internal Retro Studios pitch

Did You Know Gaming has discovered Star Fox Armada, an idea that was formerly submitted internally for Wii U by Eric Kozlowsky, a former artist at Retro Studios.

Meet Star Fox Armada

During his conversation with the publication, Kozlowsky disclosed details about what had been planned. In 2013, he presented the idea to the studio staff in the form of a 12-page paper; however, leadership soon decided against moving through with it.

Star Fox Armada highlights

– The visual approach would have been similar to the puppetry that can be seen in the early promotional photographs for the series. Would have continued the narrative and gameplay from where Star Fox 64 left off – if it had been made

— There was no way that Fox would ever leave his ship – In the aftermath of the battle against Andross, General Pepper comes to the conclusion that Corneria and the Lylat System need to be reconstructed

— As a result of the war with Andross, the government of Corneria was left without the resources necessary to rebuild both the military and the civilian sectors — Pepper recruits Star Fox, and their purpose is to investigate surrounding systems for friends and resources

— Pepper’s job is to make sure they succeed. Fox and his team are going to find out about a menace that is much more dangerous than Andross – With the intention of combining the gameplay of the original Star Fox 64 with new open world and multiplayer mechanisms

— In the single-player mode, players would go on quests onboard the Great Fox and travel to different planets, sectors, installations, and asteroid belts in order to achieve the objectives of those quests . Earn money that may be handed to Corneria, upgraded versions of your ships, or new ships altogether, such as the Land Master tank and the Blue Marine submarine – these are just two examples. You must decide how many resources to send back to Corneria to assist with its rebuilding efforts, and how many resources you will retain for yourself — Optional side quest missions that would lean into the more mercenary angle are planned – Less linear and more of a mission-based structure is planned – Fox can walk around the various decks in what amounts to an interactive menu

– GamePad would emulate a ship’s control panel with information about the current mission and which parts of the ship have been damaged by enemy damage

– For co-op play, player 1 would use a Wii Remote and nunchuck while player 2 would use the GamePad You and a buddy or a group of people might play online together to accomplish tasks on several ships — The “Armada” term comes into play since it encourages you to build up your own squadron, and there will be dogfights included in the planned “battle mode.” You’d be able to create your own anthropomorphic characters from scratch

— The game would feature other online players descending on you as Star Wolf did when he appeared in Star Fox 64, although participating in this was completely voluntary — DLC is planned to be released over time with more ships, missions, and planets.
