Live A Live – 8 heroes from different eras showcase

During the Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed an HD-2D remake of the Super Famicom cult classic Live A Live for Nintendo Switch, marking the game’s first official English release.

In Japan, the game is getting a fantastic limited edition including a board game, and although we won’t get that in the West, we’ll still get a retail release through Nintendo. That means Nintendo will be extensively promoting the game, and a Live A Live characters teaser featuring the eight protagonists from various historical periods.

Live A Live – Meet the cast

The characters trailer is just two minutes long, so it’s not an in-depth examination, but it’s plenty to fire your appetite for Live A Live if you haven’t seen it before. For you, I’ll fill in the gaps. In the prehistoric episode, there’s caveman Pogo, who recounts an entire narrative using emoting and symbols since sophisticated language hasn’t developed yet. The Master wants a student to carry on his teachings in Imperial China. Ninja Oboromaru must enter a “deadly fortress” in Edo Japan, and in the initial release, you had the choice of avoiding all confrontation or killing everyone. The Sundown Kid assists in the defense of a community against deadly criminals in the Wild West. (Spoiler alert: you may flee from battling Mad Dog.)

Masaru Takahara embarks on a mission to become the world’s greatest fighter in the contemporary day, and the whole thing is arranged similarly to Street Fighter II (which is amazing considering Yoko Shimomura composed the soundtrack for both games). Akira utilizes his psychic abilities to “defy frenzied madmen” in the near future. The robot Cube (who is really spherical) participates in an outer space horror mystery that becomes Alien in the far future. Finally, in the Middle Ages, Oersted embarks on a journey to vanquish the Lord of Dark, but things do not go as planned.
