In Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope the Rabbids speak

In Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, the Rabbids talk, but they didn’t in the last game, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. It turns out that Ubisoft told the team very clearly that the Rabbids don’t talk. So that didn’t happen, the Phantom got a musical number in Kingdom Battle.

Davide Soliani, who is in charge of making Mario + Rabbids, told IGN

“Not just Nintendo, but also Ubisoft had to trust me. And Ubisoft said, “Rabbits don’t talk.” Wasn’t that a rule? But they never told me that the Rabbids couldn’t sing, so I brought in the Phantom.”

“Ubisoft gave me the go-ahead to try something new… Everything we do is part of an evolutionary process that will take us somewhere else. I think we like to try new things as a team, and we’ll keep doing that in the DLC. And then, who knows what will happen in the future?”

“I think that when Rabbids first appeared in a video game [in 2006, they were Rayman’s enemies], they were cute and a nice surprise. But then, we couldn’t stop ourselves from abusing some of their features. At some point, people might have grown tired of hearing them scream. One of the rules we made as a team was, “Okay, they should never, ever, ever scream again in Kingdom Battle, because that was driving us crazy.”

In Mario + Rabbids With Sparks of Hope, the Rabbids can now speak properly, and Soliani said, “We have been able to announce their psychological traits and emotions in a way that was not possible in Kingdom Battle.” This was a “scary” choice, but once the team heard them, everyone “fell in love.”

Fans might be surprised to hear that finding the right voice for each Rabbid in every spoken language wasn’t easy. Because of this, the voices of the heroes aren’t as full as they could be. Whenever possible, Beep-0, Jeanie, and Rabbid NPCs tell the story.
