Retro Studios – Metroid Prime 4 art on Twitter

Since the Metroid Prime 4 Bandai Namco project was terminated, Retro Studios has been working on the next game in the popular Metroid Prime series.

The Austin-based studio has changed its Twitter header with artwork from Metroid Prime 4’s upcoming release. It will be some time before the project is completed, since the team is still looking for developers and personnel. Still, it’s wonderful to see some fresh Metroid Prime 4 teaser imagery.

Metroid Prime 4 development

Retro Studios is working on a new video game for the Nintendo Switch called Metroid Prime 4. The game was first rumored to be being developed by Bandai Namco Studios, however production was resumed in 2019 under Retro Studios, the studio behind the previous Metroid Prime titles. Kensuke Tanabe, who worked on the original Prime games, will return as a producer for the sequel.

In an early 2019 video, Nintendo EPD general manager Shinya Takahashi confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 production has resumed under Retro Studios alongside Tanabe. Takahashi said that the previous studio’s development had fallen short of Nintendo’s expectations, and that the decision to restart the project was not made lightly.

Retro advertised a position for storyboard artists in October 2020, stating that they were looking for “emotional” and “interesting and inventive situations that enrich the narrative,” which Video Titles Chronicle interpreted as indicating a stronger cinematic emphasis than previous Metroid Prime games.
