Konami planning to revive Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill?

Aside from Super Bomberman R and the recent classic collections, Konami has been relatively quiet regarding other long-running franchises. For example such as Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill, leaving many fans wondering if there is any hope for new games in these series.

According to recent report published by VGC, it seems Konami might be planning a major comeback for all three of these mostly neglected franchises. Although the sources remain anonymous, VGC reportedly confirmed the following projects being in the works at Konami:

  • A new Castlevania game that is a “reimagining” of the series, in the works internally at Konami Japan, with support from external studios.
  • A remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, by external studio Virtuos.
  • “Multiple” Silent Hill games in development at various external development studios.

Coming 2022

VGC’s anonymous sources go on to claim that Konami will show off these projects at major shows next year. VGC’s sources also elaborated that Konami higher ups recently became more willing to outsource their key IPs to external studios, after the disappointing performance of the internally developed Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps.

The initial reluctance to outsource could explain the significant slowdown in new releases for the three franchises, although that is just speculation.
