The Mario property owned by Nintendo seems like it will have a very busy 2023 as a movie is scheduled to be released in cinemas in the month of April, while Super Nintendo World only recently started accepting guests at Universal Studios Hollywood. On the other hand, there has not been a new Mario game released in a considerable amount of time.
What about a new Mario game?
There has not been a new 3D Mario game released in many years, if we exclude ports. In the most recent few years, the primary emphasis has been on new Mario Party games in addition to sports titles. In point of fact, as of the writing of this essay, Nintendo does not have a single Mario game planned for release in the year 2023.
With this information, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that IGN questioned Shigeru Miyamoto about the situation during a recent interview that they conducted with him. They inquired as to why there would not be a Mario video game released concurrently with the theme park and the film. Miyamoto provided a comment in which he said, “we’re constantly working on Mario, so when we come to a point when we can disclose information, we’ll absolutely do so.”
