A “Nintendo Switch Pro” redesign, which would have given the Nintendo Switch a mid-generation hardware upgrade, has been the subject of considerable conjecture over the last few years.
If this redesign had been implemented, the Nintendo Switch would have been able to play games developed for previous generations. Despite the fact that we may now have a better notion of why Nintendo has kept mute on the subject, none of these rumors have yet led to any official announcements.
According to the trustworthy individuals at Digital Foundry, Nintendo had at one point considered the possibility of launching a product known as “Switch Pro,” but ultimately decided against doing so. This information was confirmed to Digital Foundry by a number of unidentified coders.

After this, the researchers at Digital Foundry came to the conclusion that Nintendo was most likely working on a real successor to the Nintendo Switch, or whatever a “Switch 2” would be named. In light of the fact that Nintendo is “worried” about how to move away from the current runaway success of the Switch platform, Digital Foundry has cautioned that the debut of Nintendo’s next gadget may not take place until at the earliest the year 2020.
