As part of its Mario + Rabbids series, Ubisoft has now made two games with Mario in it.Would the team would be interested in working with another Nintendo series?
In a recent interview, this question was asked of producer Xavier Manzanares. Manzanares said that the studio has “tons of dreams” and thought about “a lot of other characters” when it was first moving toward working with Nintendo in 2014. He said that Bowser being playable in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is “already a dream come true for us” in terms of wishes coming true.
Manzanares on Bowser’s inclusion
“It’s funny that we all have so many dreams. We started to dream in 2014 when we thought about Mario. We also love a lot of other characters from the Nintendo universe, but when we decided to really focus on Mario and the Rabbids and Mario and friends, that became the main focus and direction. Then, with Donkey Kong, it was a dream come true because we looked into the stories we love about Donkey Kong and found that we could do it. It showed that Nintendo was open to making decisions and talking about other IPs if it made sense, if it made sense for the brand, the genre, etc.
With Sparks of Hope, we’re adding Bowser, who is already a big deal for us, and Rabbid Rosalina, which is a Rabbid version of their characters, so this was our main focus. Since we haven’t finished the game yet, we’re really focusing on that part right now. For example, we’re making sure that Bowser fits in well with the Rabbids, the crew, and the team as a whole. That’s already a dream come true for us; having Bowser in the game is a big deal for the team.
