Ubisoft – Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope did not perform as expected

Although Ubisoft has not provided a specific estimate as to how many copies of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope have been sold, it would seem that the game has not lived up to the expectations that the business had for it. As part of an update on the company’s financial situation for the month of January, co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot highlighted how “surprised” they were by the company’s “underperformance in the latter weeks of 2022 and early January.” Another game that Ubisoft cited as an example of an underperforming product is Just Dance 2023 Edition.

Troublesome times at Ubisoft

It would seem that Ubisoft is going through a difficult period overall at least for the time being. Within the same report, Guillemot added, “It is very evident that we are dissatisfied with our recent performance.” In the midst of deteriorating economic circumstances that are impacting consumer purchasing, we are confronted with contrasting market dynamics as the industry continues to transition towards mega-brands and eternal live games.

The critical reaction has been one area where Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has excelled above expectations.  Keep in mind that 2023 will bring a significant amount of new content for the game. There are going to be three rounds of downloadable content, and one of them will be a completely new Rayman adventure towards the end of the year. This section contains further details on the DLC plans.
