Nintendo Europe confirmed that the upcoming Future Connected Epilogue which is included in the forthcoming Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition will begin around one year after the events of the main game.
You’ll be able to tackle the Future Connected Epilogue at any time, so you don’t need to complete the story again if you do not wish too.

About Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected
Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected is an extra epilogue story in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. It revolves around Shulk and Melia who are playable in the new area Bionis’ Shoulder and are accompanied by two unfamiliar Nopon. Future Connected sets one year after the main story.
This additional story is accessible from the beginning, it is not needed to clear the main storyline.
