EVO, een van ‘s werelds grootste en bekendste vechtgame-toernooien, is overgenomen door Sony en esports-bedrijf RTS.
De aankoop betekent dat EVO in feite een Sony-evenement (Playstation) wordt, hoewel mede-oprichters van toernooien Tom en Tony Cannon zullen blijven dienen als “belangrijke adviseurs”. Bovendien blijft het evenement “open voor alle platforms”, aldus Mark Julio, directeur wereldwijde bedrijfsontwikkeling van EVO.

Gezien het feit dat EVO altijd Nintendo-titels zoals de Super Smash Bros.-serie bevatte, kun je je afvragen wat de overname door Sony zou kunnen betekenen voor deze games. In een gesprek met IGN deelde een Nintendo-woordvoerder de volgende opmerking over de toekomst van Smash Bros. bij EVO.
