Digitart Interactive heeft een nieuwe video uitgebracht met de actievolle gameplay van zijn op Inca mythology gebaseerde actie-RPG Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards. Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards komt op pc, PlayStation 4, Xbox One en Nintendo Switch in 2020 en is de stripster en actrice Paula Garces (Harold & Kumar-serie, On My Block, The Shield) als Incan halfgod Aluna.
Gemaakt door actrice Paula Garces en Antonio Hernandez in reactie op de ondervertegenwoordiging van zowel latino- als vrouwelijke superhelden in strips, werd Aluna een culthit en speelt momenteel in de lopende stripboeken saga, The World of Aluna, geschreven door Assassin’s Creed en Batman: Arkham Origins schrijvers Ryan Galletta, Dooma Wendschuch en Corey May.
Aluna maakte ook naam in videogames nadat ze een speelbaar personage was geworden in de populaire MOBA Heroes of Newerth van S2 Games, waar ze zelf werd gespeeld door Paula Garces.

One of our goals when we created Aluna was to bring the world of 16th Century Latin America to life. We’ve seen plenty of games about Greek and Norse mythology, but little representation for Inca lore. There’s such a rich cultural history to explore there, and as much as we’ve enjoyed making the comic book series, we wanted to truly immerse our audience in a fully realized world that they could explore firsthand.

Aluna has been a very personal project for me. Latino women are seldom given starring roles, especially when it comes to superhero comics and video games. Yet there’s so many Latino women who play games and read comics, who never see themselves reflected in the media they admire. With Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards, I wanted to change that.

Opgegroeid in het begin van de 16e eeuw, ontsnapte Aluna naar de Nieuwe Wereld om zich te realiseren dat het haar ware thuisland was. Aluna: Sentinel of the Shardssets stelt onze heldin op een zoektocht door de Inca-mythologie terwijl ze ernaar streeft het amulet te herstellen dat haar godin-moeder haar heeft toevertrouwd … en haar ware bestemming te vervullen.
Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards combineert de diepe actie-RPG-mechanica van Diablo met de revisionistische mythologie van God of War. Gebaseerd op Inca Lore, Aluna: Sentinel of the Shardsfeatures mythologische goden, beesten en verhalen die de ruggengraat vormden van de 16e-eeuwse Colombiaanse cultuur.
