The Entertainment Software Association, die de E3 organiseert, heeft The Washington Post verzekerd dat de E3 in 2023 zal terugkeren.
Het grootste probleem hiermee, zoals het tijdschrift aangeeft, is dat de meeste videogamebedrijven tegenwoordig liever hun eigen digitale showcases hebben, waardoor ze geld besparen op reizen naar LA en ze materiaal kunnen vrijgeven wanneer ze maar willen in plaats van op een bepaalde dag en maand. Geoff Keighley heeft vandaag gezegd dat hij een fysiek evenement overweegt voor Sumer Game Fest volgend jaar, dus of de E3 volgend jaar werkt, valt nog te bezien.
ESA geeft aan;
“We’re optimistic about returning in 2023 with both a digital and an in-person event,” said ESA president and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis in an interview with The Washington Post. “As much as we love these digital events and how they reach people and how we want that worldwide reach, we also know that there’s a very strong need for people to congregate — to be able to interact in person, see each other, and speak about what makes games great.”
“What I think is terrific about all of this testing is that businesses of all sizes are trying to find out what works best to promote the product and the information that they want to share with customers,” he added. “And I believe there is a place for a physical exhibition; I believe it is important to have digital reach.” When the two are combined, I believe there is a fundamental component of what we believe E3 can give.”
